End Hunger . . . Nourish Hope
Hunger is a significant problem throughout Citrus, Hernando and Sumter counties. According to the 2018 ALICE Report (Asset-Limited, Income-Restrained and Employed), 50% of households in our community struggle to pay for basic needs. That number was 45% in 2012, indicating a steady rise over the past five years. The state average is 46%.
The mission of the Community Food Bank (CFB) is to be the driving force to:
- Promote Awareness
- Inspire Involvement
- End Hunger
We do this by acquiring and distributing nutritious, quality food to pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters throughout our area. Together with our volunteers and donors, we will promote public awareness, inspire community involvement, and strive to end hunger and nourish hope for those in need of our support.
The CFB helps feed more than 70,000 neighbors in need each month. We have distributed more than 14 million pounds of food since 2013, providing over 21 million meals to our community!
