Community Food Bank Launches Grill Our Bill Campaign
Organization Aims to Alleviate Mortgage Burden and Re-Allocate Funds to Accommodate Growing Need for Food
The Community Food Bank (CFB) is launching a campaign to pay off the mortgage on its 10-acre food distribution campus in Homosassa, Florida. The physical space that serves as a central distribution hub to 75+ partner agencies
throughout Citrus, Sumter, and Hernando counties has a $365,000 mortgage balance. The property includes two food distribution warehouses (14,500 square feet), walk-in refrigeration area, a sorting room, a loading dock, four offices, one conference room, two break rooms, parking lot, and land that houses the CFB’s Trees of Life.
“For more than 13 years, the property has served as a hub for getting nutritious food out to several thousands of individuals throughout the Nature Coast facing food insecurity,” explains Barbara Sprague, CEO/Executive Director of the CFB. “This is where our shelves are stocked, our distribution programs are organized, our trucks are loaded, unloaded, and dispatched, and where our partner agencies acquire the food and resources they need to deliver quality services to the individuals and families they serve.”
According to Sprague, eliminating the mortgage means being able to operate without an added financial burden.
“The need for food throughout our region continues to rapidly grow and paying off the mortgage means we will be able to re-allocate those funds towards purchasing more fresh produce, meats, dairy, and other nutritious food while continuing to expand our outreach efforts,” says Sprague. “We’re working to transform a monthly financial burden into a permanent foundation for long term food security, ensuring that this property remains a fixture of hope for our community for generations to come.”
